I remember being 'creative' as a child. Most of us probably do. So I knew it was there but that doesn't mean I can paint. In fact, I still cant paint...on canvas that is. However (and my mom laughs at this), I LOVE to paint furniture. In fact, I've found I pretty much love fixing up furniture all together. Minus pain-staking hours of sanding by hand...I really need an electric sander. Hint, hint, Rod.
So for a while now, I've been working on DIY projects around the house. It's been a blast but I've failed to blog about any of it. Like...At. All. I'm far from done so catch up shouldn't be too hard :-) Hopefully...
Oh, I just remembered. I did tell you about painting the boys dresser. My mind doesn't work. :-)
A couple weeks ago I got to paint this little letter writing desk that sits by our front door. It's been handy but it wasn't in pristine condition when it was given to us. I do, however, love this piece so I decided to paint it. It was sort of impromptu. I had paint for another project and decided to go with it. I think it turned our brilliantly.
This is a before pic...
See? It's a nice little piece of furniture. From this distance you can't see it's flaws.
And the inside...
Hey! There's a little person in my picture :-)
I feel the need to say, I was very nervous about this. I had a gut feeling the color would look nice but I wasn't sure. And I'd hate to ruin furniture. Literally the moment I started painting it, I knew it would turn out great. The color is beautiful on this.
After...
And...
I wish I could invite you all over to see it! Pictures don't do it justice. I had originally thought I'd need to replace the hardware but it matches perfectly! How lucky did it get?! The mix of rustic grey and the aged hardware make it look somewhat colonial and I love that.
You can't see from the pictures but I'm also in the process of painting the living room a creamy yellow (something I'll blog about after I get the last wall painted) so that makes a huge difference too. Our old dark tan color wouldn't have matched this grey desk at all.
Best parts? It took no time at all (very little sanding, yay!). And I got to use my no VOC's paint! Cute and eco-friendly. What a great combo.
So I'm not Picasso... but I think I found my niche. :-)
What DIY projects have you done lately?
